Wonderful Taormina

  • Catania

TAORMINA Idyllically perched on a rocky promontory high above the sea, Taormina has been the most popular tourist destination in Sicily for a couple of hundreds of years...

Beautifully restored mediaeval buildings, breathtaking views around every corner and a giddy network of winding streets with shops, bars and restaurants make for a perfect holiday spot. Taormina’s past is Sicily’s history in a microcosm: Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Swabia’s, the French and the Spanish all came, saw, conquered and left. A tour around between a wonderful Taormina, Siracusa and Mount Etna.

The ancient and picturesque old town is distinguished by the presence of narrow winding lanes and is divided into seven districts. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we proceed to Castelmola for a guided visit of the village, perched almost precariously above Taormina. The lovely hamlet is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Warm friendly people and spectacular panoramas characterize the village. Castelmola offers a balcony over Taormina and the bay of Giardini Naxos and is framed by the mysterious and beautiful active volcano, Mount Etna.
