Due to it's highly elevated historic and artistic value, it has been declared a NATIONAL ITALIAN MONUMENT. The villa was constructed in the early twentieth century by Robert H. Kitson, a British painter of great artistic talent, along with the contributions of Sir Alfred East and Sir Cecil Arthur Hunt, who were landscape painters, and also by Sir Frank Brangwyn, very famous for having been the first designer of Louis Confort Tiffany, and for having painted the fresco in the Royal Gallery of The House Of Lords, at Westminster, as well as the Foyer of the Rockfeller Center in New York. Casa Cuseni is surrounded by an enchanting historical garden, with thirteen panoramic terraces that face the Bay of Giardini Naxos and Mount Etna.
In 1947, when Robert H. Kistson died, the House was inherited by Daphne Phelps, his niece, who transforomed part of the residence in a special museum in memory of her uncle who was a painter, and the other part into the first and only hotel for artists in Italy. - DAY 7 / TAORMINA
- After breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide for a guided walking tour of Taormina, this lovely Sicilian town. Several civilizations shaped the history of Taormina, among them the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Normans Arabs and Spanish, all ruled the town in different times. Between Porta Catania and Porta Messina lies Corso Umberto the lively center of town lined with shops, and cafes. We admire the Duomo, the Church of San Giuseppe and ultimately, reach the Greek Roman theater, originally built by the Greeks, and enlarged by the Romans. The excursion is followed by cooking class
- DAY 8 / TAORMINA
- Day at leisure.
- DAY 9 / SIRACUSA/ORTIGIA
- After an energizing breakfast at the hotel you will be visiting Siracusa. You will follow the eastern coastline passing Giarre Acireale and Catania. Syracuse was not the first Greek colony of Sicily but grew very rapidly in to the point that rivaled Athens. Your guide will lead you on a tour of the archeological park including the impressive theater carved into the rock, and the Ear of Dionysius, formerly a limestone quarry. Lunch at local restaurant. In the afternoon, you will visit the medieval city center known as the Island of Ortigia with the Cathedral built on the Temple of Athena.
- DAY 10 / MT. ETNA
- The best things come in small packages and that’s definitely true on this evening out. A small minibus will take you on a wonderful drive along the most scenic route through lush country side up to the Mount Etna. When the lush landscape gives way to the lava and the ride becomes too bumpy for our minibus we change over to the off-road vehicles. And when it’s too much even for the off-road vehicles it’s just your turn to walk off a few calories. In the footsteps of our expert Alpine Guide, a 30 minutes trek gets you as high as you can get. Stand on this giant feel the heat underneath you, look out the sea and yet the sky is so close you can touch it. Now, add a sunset to it and you’ll have one of the most beautiful evening of your life! And if that’s not enough when you’ll back down at 2000 Mt Antonella will wait you in her mountain chalet to greet you with a typical Sicilian dinner, wine included.
- DAY 11 / DEPARTURE TO USA
- Departure transfer, by private car and driver, from hotel in Taormina to Catania Airport
